WILDFIRE RISK REDUCTION GRANT PROGRAM

The Hill Country Fire Coalition of Texas is an all-volunteer nonprofit established to implement Kendall County’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). What makes us unique is how we began: a group of committed volunteers who recognized the county’s growing wildfire risk and collaborated with local fire departments, governmental and non-governmental agencies, and nonprofit partners to develop the CWPP—at no cost to the County.

To bring the plan to life, we formed a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (the first of its kind in the State of Texas) and built a comprehensive program that includes community outreach and education, free and confidential property risk assessments, roadside and defensible-space projects, and policy and advocacy efforts.

Because Kendall County’s Average Median Income (AMI) exceeds both state and national levels, many residents are ineligible for state or federal grant assistance for wildfire mitigation work. Property Risk Assessments increase awareness, but without the ability to complete the recommended risk-reduction work, overall wildfire risk remains unchanged.

Recognizing this gap, in 2026, the Coalition will implement the Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant Program to support Kendall County property owners whose income falls below the Kendall County AMI and/or who have documented physical limitations that prevent them from completing needed mitigation work.

More information will be available in early 2026. Subscribe to our newsletter here on the website or follow us on Facebook to learn more about how to apply and be the first to know!

How Can You Help?

As an all-volunteer organization, we rely on community support and donations to deliver this assistance. We need partners who live, work, recreate and just love the Texas Hill Country landscape to help us expand this program and make our community safer for everyone and to preserve our natural and cultural resources.
